Set of 4 Original 1950s Knoll Jens Risom 666c Side Chairs
These chairs were purchased in the early 1950s as part of a large suite of Knoll furniture purchased upon arrival to Massachusetts from Finland. Restoring 666c side chairs properly is time consuming and requires many steps. Photos below are descriptive. Key is filling all the old holes from the tacks and staples. Otherwise the old holes act as sponges for moisture and rust the tacks and rot the wood. We use structural epoxy wood putty. The original finish needed to be rejuvenated by thinned oil to allow for greater penetration into the wood. We use a mixture of marine spar varnish, boiled linseed oil and turpentine. Sometimes two coats are required. We searched and managed to find some surplus military webbing. 1200 pound cotton which was used for these chairs. In the photos you can see the old rusty tacks which were removed as well as the rusty staples which were pulled. We believe this is the third or fourth time these chairs have received new strapping.
