Jens Quistgaard Stokke Chair
First things first. Long ago this chair had two weld repairs. The welds are pictured.
Now the rest. This is an original chair in otherwise completely original condition. We haven’t done any refinishing, oiling, scrubbing or generally messing around. I have not seen another one of these chairs that has been left completely original. They all seem to have been refinished or had the suede cleaned or replaced etc. 20 years or so ago when I purchased this chair I sent photos to Denmark and had this chair autenticated. Also, ACCORDING TO THE Gubi representatives at the New York Gift Show (Gubi REISSUED THESE CHAIRS STARTING ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO[YES, I TALKED TO THEM IN PERSON] -most of the SO-CALLED ORIGINAL chairs you see are COUNTERFEIT (they were made to deceive). They told me one of the easy best ways to quickly check is to look at the battens. Seldom the GUBI people said are the battens correct. So if you see a nice label on the canvas that alone should not convince you it is authentic. I bought this chair about 20 years ago and it’s time to let it go. It’s still surprisingly comfortable.
