Custom Made Black Walnut and Rosewood Desk
Desk is made from air dried black walnut and real vintage Brazilian rosewood I took from an old 1962 bed frame. (If you see furniture or objects that say “rosewood” it is almost certainly NOT the real thing. Brazilian rosewood stopped being imported in the 1970s for all practical purposes. Rosewood veneer remained availble. Even Danish furniture of the 1980s labeled “rosewood” was often mahogany stained a rosewood color! Today much of what is called “rosewood” is so-called Indian rosewood which is not the same species.
My friend and i get logs, mill them, air dry them for two years and then I build custom furniture with the walnut and other woods. Air dried wood has a much better look than kiln dried, more color and more intense color. And with age the differnce gets even greater.
Rings of beech and the iPad/iPhone desk stand are aniline dyed and oiled. Desk has three coats of custom formulated finish and two coats of paste wax.
